In Other Words is a work involving the element of chance in its making. For each of the 17 panels, a die was rolled to select an answer for 6 questions that I wrote in advance. The questions and answers determined how each panel would be created (102 die rolls). The die also determined when there would be a “stop” in the question sequence and a return to question 1 would occur. (this is evident where the alignment of the panels shifts from top to bottom edges aligned). One of the six questions determined that an aspect from the previous panel would be carried forward to the next panel. (i.e.panel size, the dimension of a segment of the previous panel, a color, etc.) Other questions/aspects that the die chose are size of surface area covered in eggshell or paint, color, eggshell fragment size…
It was a collaboration of the known with the unknown. A blend of aesthetic and technical decisions setting up restrictions and letting chance make selections from them.
